Vedas are the main four pillars of Hinduism and Adi Granth. The origin of the word Veda is from the original Sanskrit word विध्य which means to know, meaning related to knowledge. Since the Vedas are passed down orally from one generation to another, it is also called Shruti.

There are different views about the complete compositional period of Vedic literature.

Pre-Vedic Period 1500 to 1000 BCE and Post-Vedic Period 1000 to 500 BCE

Based on the manuscripts found so far, the composer of the Rigveda is considered to be Pre-Vedic period, while the rest of the Vedic texts are attributed to Brahman Aranyaka and Uttaro Vedic period, the author of the Upanishads.
The four Vedas are Rigveda Yajurveda Samaveda and atarveda

The Vedas and the literature related to the Vedas are known as Vedic literature which is divided into seven divisions. Brahman texts including Mantras Aranya texts Upanishads Sutra texts Prati Sankhya and Anukramani.
