The teams advancing to the last 16 of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar have their schedule ahead and here’s how the knockout rounds work

In the knock out stage of the FIFA World Cup, teams will play each other only once with the winner advancing to the next round.There are four rounds in total: round of 16, quarter finals, semi finals and the final which will be held on December 

If the score is equal at the end of normal playing time in any of these matches, two periods of 15 minutes are played in extra time of 30 minutes. If the score is still level, five penalty shootouts follow to decide the winners.

The teams that qualified

Group A The Netherlands secured a place in the last 16 with wins over African champions Senegal and hosts Qatar once again topped Group A despite a 1-1 draw at Door. Their fortunes turned around with a decisive 3-1 win over Ecuador.

A strong win over Group B wealth and Iran and a goalless draw with the United States saw England top Group B with 7.5 and enter the knockout stages after a 1-0 win over Iran in a match marred by political tension. was qualified

After a shock opener against Saudi Arabia in Group C, Argentina regained top spot in the group with wins over Mexico and Poland. They will meet France on Sunday

Group D defending champions France lived up to expectations and became the first team to qualify for the last 16 with back-to-back wins over Australia and Denmark in Group D after suffering 100 defeats. Australia finished as Group D runners-up with six points from wins over Tunisia and Denmark. They face Argentina on Saturday

Group E The Samurai Blue entered the lMonday

g as the unlikely winners of Group E after two stunning comeback wins over Germany and Spain. Only lost to Costa they will face Croatia on Monday with a blow to Postarika to secure a place in the last 16. Then a draw with Germany and a loss to Japan will see who they meet on Tuesday

Morocco top Group F with wins over Canada and Belgium after goalless draws with Group F and will play Spain on Tuesday. Croatia joined the last 16 after two goalless draws with Morocco and Belgium and a four-1 win over Canada. They will face Japan on Monday

Back-to-back wins against Group G Land and Serbia booked their ticket to the no-count stage, followed by a one-nil loss to Cameroon. They face South Korea on Monday. In which they have got the runners-up spot and will face Portugal on Tuesday.

Group H Portugal ended Group H with a loss by South Korea but maintained their top spot on Tuesday against Land. After a goalless draw with Riga and defeat to Ghana, South Korea advanced to the lockout stage with a last-gasp win over already-qualified Portugal.
